Downloadable weights provide one form of access. They do not by themselves establish unrestricted commercial use, access to training data, or practical affordability.

Our comparison checklist

For every model in our planned open-weight edition, we will check the official release and licence, supported use, hardware requirements and exact evaluated version. Closed-weight models will be assessed with the same attention to task performance and access costs.

Why it matters

Our view: readers deserve a useful account of what they can do with a model, rather than a binary badge that hides restrictions. Provider licences will remain the source of truth.
